Religious Freedom and Responsibility

The Church of Direct Experience, CODE, operates as a religious organization grounded in the lawful exercise of religious freedom. Our practices, structure, and use of sacred sacraments are religious in purpose and are carried out with seriousness, discipline, and respect for applicable legal frameworks.

Religious Status

CODE is organized as a 508(c)(1)(A) religious organization under the Internal Revenue Code. As a Church, CODE is established for religious purposes and operates in accordance with principles of religious freedom recognized under United States law.

This structure reflects our identity as a religious institution devoted to The Path of Direct Experience.

Religious Practice

Religious Practice

Within CODE, sacred sacraments, including visionary plants, are used solely within a defined religious context. They are approached as sacred elements of religious practice, engaged within structured ceremonial environments, and supported by preparation, guidance, and integration.

They are not used recreationally, commercially, or as part of a medical or therapeutic model.

Non-Commercial Framework

CODE does not operate as a commercial enterprise. There are no retail sales of sacraments. There is no distribution for personal possession or use. There is no transactional exchange for isolated experiences.

Participation occurs within a religious framework supported by voluntary contributions that sustain the structure of the Church.

Religious Freedom

CODE affirms the importance of religious freedom as a foundational principle. We operate with the understanding that religious practice is protected when conducted sincerely and responsibly, that the use of sacraments within a religious context carries specific legal considerations, and that structure, discipline, and clarity are essential to maintaining that protection.

We approach this responsibility with seriousness and care.

Compliance

Compliance and Responsibility

CODE is committed to operating with integrity, transparency, and respect for the legal environment in which it exists.

We do not seek to circumvent the law. We seek to operate within it, consistent with our religious purpose.

All practices are conducted with attention to safety, ethical responsibility, and legal awareness.

Governance

Board of Directors

CODE maintains a Board of Directors responsible for governance, organizational stability, and legal compliance. The Board works in coordination with the Presiding Elder and the CODE Council to ensure that the Church operates with integrity, continuity, and responsibility.

The foundation of CODE is not only spiritual. It is structural. Religious freedom carries both protection and responsibility. We honor both.
